I think Elisabeth Elliot
says it best in, Let Me Be A Woman that "a choice
is a limitation." Life is full of choices and we
also know that life is full of limitations. To have certain
things may mean to go without others. To do one thing may mean
to not do something else. To be committed to one person means
to not be with others. To choose a church home and be submitted
to the leadership of that church means to not follow the direction
of another. Most importantly, to choose to follow God means
that you will serve no others. And lastly, to choose to be a
Godly Woman, and be what God has called you to be, means you
can't be what others want you to be and may mean you can't be
what you want to be.
Making choices and being able to accept the
limitations that go along with them requires maturity, responsibility
and discipline.
As a godly woman we must be consistent in making choices that
are supported by our faith and God's will for our lives. To
make a conscious decision to accept the Lord as your head you
must also be willing to accept that your life will never be
the same. Your way of thinking will have to change. Proverbs
14:12 reads, "There is a way which seemeth right unto
a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Romans
12: 1, 2 says, "And be not conformed to this world:
but be ye tranformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may
prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of
God." Romans 8:13 says, " For if ye live after
the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify
the deeds of the body, ye shall live." His word lets us
know that the life you live will be indicative of the choices
that you make.
Through study I have found that God has given
us free will. We have free will because he wants us to "choose"
him. For example, if you were the only woman in the world and
a man opted to be with you, did he choose you? No because there
was no choice. You were the only woman there. How much more
special would you feel knowing that from 1 million other women
he chose you. God wants us to know why we are choosing him when
we choose him. We should be clear as women that when we decide
to live for God and make the necessary adjustments in our lives
that we know exactly why we are doing it and keep that reason
at the forefront of our minds. It makes the effort worthwhile
all the more.
Don't you want to be able to think for yourself,
have wisdom to make better choices and the confidence to live
according to what you know? This is true freedom and it can
only be found in God!
